Summary of the Design Engineer:  

PSG Energy Group is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic renewable energy design engineer. The design engineer position is responsible for organizing all client financial bill summaries, completing site observations/site analysis, producing high quality design, permitting analysis, and construction documentation for commercial grid-tied PV systems and grid-tied hybrid systems including PV, batter storage, gensets, and CHP. The applicant should be detail oriented with outstanding communication, organizational, and time management skills. This is a full-time position reporting to the Design Manager in the Pittsboro, IN office.

General Duties:

  • Coordinate all design key elements like annual energy consumption, utility rates and peak demand values
  • Produce high quality design, permit, and construction documentation to assist engineering team
  • Coordinate with external professional engineers (structural, electrical, ect).
  • Provide design and technical support to sales team and operations team
  • Initiate design applications alone or by working with engineering and project management to establish accuracy
  • Review and respond to customer inquiries
  • Review and respond to RFI’s during all bidding, proposal development and pre-construction phases
  • Review project specifications, scope of work and develop cost estimate and project schedule to be reviewed by management for inclusion into proposal and project execution
  • Evaluate possible upgrade options to determine best solution for client’s needs
  • Review cost estimates with procurement and/or construction departments as necessary to ensure cost accuracy and develop practical project execution plan
  • Perform proposal development, creation, execution, editing and final version completion
  • Respond to customer questions and participate in technical bid evaluation
  • Communicate project requirements to project team after contract award and assist with project execution as needed
  • Continuously seek out new bidding opportunities with the greater sales department and methods to improve proposal costs

Knowledge, Education and Experience:

  • BS in Engineering or similar construction related field experience
  • 3 to 5 Years related experience
  • Software proficiency specific to AutoCAD, Sketchup, Solar Project Assessment tools (Helioscope, PVSyst, PVWatts, Energy Tool Base, ect) in addition to the Microsoft Suite of Office Products
  • Knowledge of construction materials and equipment with respect to market focus of the company
  • Experience in estimating, reading drawings
  • Ability to manage time and meet deadlines
  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong written, verbal and presentational communication skills
