ONTILITY Solar PV System Design is the right course for you regardless of your experience or skill level. There are two tracks offered. When you register for the course, you will be put in contact with the instructor who will determine which track is best for you.

If you:
• Have some PV installation experience and need to know how to design systems,
• Have completed an introductory solar course and want more education,
you will be placed on the Solar Design I track where you will learn the concepts and skills required of any system designer. You will work on residential and small commercial roof-mounted systems.

If you are:
• An experienced solar energy professional,
• Ready to take your PV design skills to the next level,
• Working toward professional certification (NABCEP or UL), or if you
• Need to know more about larger more complex commercial PV system design,
you will be placed on the Solar Design II track where you will expand your design knowledge and skills.

Placing you on the correct track lets us teach you what you need to know now. Each track is adjusted to match your knowledge and experience level.

ONTILITY’s blended learning approach offers the personal attention of an instructor-led class with the convenience of an online course. Each class is a combination of scheduled Webinars and individual design assignments. During the Webinars, you will join a small group of your fellow solar pros and an ONTILITY Solar Instructor for discussion and review of design assignments. Between Webinars, you will work on your own to complete advanced commercial designs.

You must be able to work independently on design projects and be comfortable using the Internet and computer-based drawing tools (AutoCAD, Visio). For students on the System Design II track, we assume that you have significant solar industry experience, knowledge of the NEC, and familiarity with design documents and drawings.

Solar PV System Design satisfies the NABCEP 40 hour advanced solar training requirement for PV certification. If your career is leading you toward NABCEP PV Installer certification, ONTILITY Solar PV System Design is the best choice for your required training.

Design topics include site analysis, design specifications and drawings, feasibility reports, stringent building department reviews and codes. The course focus is on grid-tied PV systems.

Upon Completion of this course, you will be able to:
• Gather site data using satellite imagery
• Determine system mechanical and electrical specifications.
• Produce design documents.
• Calculate system specifications based on electrical load demands, array area and other site-specific parameters
• Describe NEC and firefighter safety requirements related to PV systems.
