Put the classroom theory into practice with the ultimate hands-on PV experience available! This five day lab class offers students the opportunity to work closely with experienced PV professionals. You will gain valuable insight and experience while installing and commissioning multiple PV systems consisting of modules, inverters, and racking components from a wide range of manufacturers that are all big players in the PV industry. A low student-to-instructor ratio and the world-class lab facility at SEI’s home base in Paonia, Colorado combine to make PV201L the perfect environment for your first hands-on PV experience.

By working in small groups, students will put what they’ve learned in PV101 to the test. They get their hands dirty by fully installing and commissioning a wide variety of system types before testing the system, then de-commissioning and breaking down. SEI is not affiliated with any equipment manufacturers, so students get unbiased opinions and are able to work on all of the equipment being used in the field today.

Students rotate between a commercial ballasted roof, two steep roofs, a ground-mount, and a pole-mount system that contain a variety of inverters, racking hardware and mounting methods. Students will learn fall protection best practices and different harness set-ups. They will learn lockout/tagout procedures to create a safe working environment and use an assortment of meters to test systems. This class is a good complement to PV301L, the Solar Electric Lab Week (Battery-based).

Prerequisites:  PV101 or PVOL101 (or students who have completed a SEI PV workshop prior to January 2010 and have not attended a workshop at the Paonia lab facility)
