[Santa Fe Springs, CA] Trojan Battery introduced a new line of valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) absorbent glass mat (AGM) batteries for deep-cycling applications, including renewable energy systems. The Reliant AGM batteries are manufactured in Trojan Battery’s new production facility in Sandersville, Georgia. Two of the AGM line’s group sizes are commonly used in small to midsized PV systems, including the Reliant T105-AGM and the Reliant L16-AGM. The Reliant T105-AGM has a capacity of 217 amp-hours at the 20-hour rate. The Reliant L16-AGM has a capacity of 370 amp-hours at the 20-hour rate. Each of the battery models is 6 Vdc nominal. The Reliant battery line features Trojan Battery’s C-Max Technology, which includes a proprietary paste formula, a thick separator that creates high compression between the glass mat and plates to protect against stratification, and one flame arrestor per cell for maximum operational safety.

[Fort Pierce, FL] DEHN developed its recently released DEHNcube surge protective device (SPD) for service in PV systems that do not include equipment with integrated SPDs to shield against lightning-induced events. The DEHNcube (model number DCU PV1 SCI 800 US) is listed to the ANSI/UL 1449 3rd Edition as a Type 1 SPD. The device protects the dc side of PV systems with typical voltage ratings of up to 600 Vdc. Housed in a compact NEMA 4X enclosure, the DEHNcube is suitable for mounting in outdoor locations and features a window that allows technicians to view the device’s operational status. Electrical specifications include a short-circuit current rating of 2,000 Adc, a nominal discharge current of 10 kA and a maximum discharge current of 40 kA.

[Livermore, CA] SolarBOS designed its new AC Breaker Panel line to meet the market’s demand for BOS equipment to support the integration of commercial and utility-scale PV systems with decentralized power conversion designs using multiple string inverters. The panels are ETL listed to UL 508A and aggregate 2–16 3-phase inverter circuits. The main bus is sized for 250 A or 400 A, and optional main breakers up to 400 A are available. The AC Breaker Panels feature a NEMA 4 powder-coated steel or NEMA 4X fiberglass enclosure and allow for vertical or horizontal mounting. The panel configuration has space for an optional revenue-grade integrated power meter.

The system-level fire certifications cover Unirac’s SolarMount (SM), Roof Mount (RM) and SunFrame (SF) product families, providing they are installed with compatible module types according to the installation guide for each specific racking product. [Las Vegas, NV] After a few years of declining attendee and exhibitor numbers, Solar Power International (SPI), North America’s largest solar trade show, was back on the growth track in 2014. SPI’s producers, Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA), reported 15,000 conference attendees—a year-over-year growth of 15%. In addition, exhibitor numbers grew 4%, according to SEIA and SEPA, with 583 exhibits filling the halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Of the exhibitors, 25% were international, representing 23 countries. The energy on the show floor felt upbeat and optimistic as manufacturers and service providers debuted new offerings and educated expo attendees on existing product lines. This issue, SolarPro has expanded its Wire department to focus on several of SPI 2014’s equipment release highlights.

[Oakland, CA] PVComplete has developed a new software tool built to streamline the most time-consuming tasks in commercial solar project design. The comprehensive tool, also named PVComplete, automates electrical design and module layout by utilizing a cloud-based PV module database while taking into account roof zones and obstructions with sophisticated shadow models. Electrical design features include automatic string assignment, single-line diagram generation and combiner-box placement. It also provides conductor layout (including size and length), conduit fill and voltage drop. PVComplete enables multiple design iterations. It is seamlessly integrated with AutoCAD and is available as an application or a bundled “solar CAD” solution.

[Englewood Cliffs, NJ] LG Electronics USA officially introduced its LG Mono X ACe solar module in Las Vegas. The ac module fully integrates an LG microinverter with a high-efficiency LG Mono X module. The unit is listed to UL 1703 and UL 1741. It carries a 10-year product warranty and a 25-year linear power-output warranty. It pairs a 60-cell, 18.3% efficient, monocrystalline module with a 208/240 Vac microinverter. The microinverter has a CEC-weighted efficiency of 96% at 208 Vac and 96.5% at 240 Vac. Continuous ac output power is rated at 285 W. AC branch-circuit configurations of up to 12 Mono X ACe ac modules are allowed (11 per branch circuit at 208 Vac). The all-in-one design is superclean visually, with no exposed dc wiring. It installs without requiring an additional trunk cable. The Mono X Ace system includes LG’s EnerBox gateway and EnerVu web-based monitoring software.
